Volunteers are crucial to the success of our boys and girls.
Their energies and ideas have created and sustained our
work with children. Volunteer roles can be tailored to
your schedule
and talents.
Short Term and Special Event Volunteers
Volunteers are always needed to assist with light office
duties – filing,
typing, mailings, etc.- on a weekly or as needed basis. The
time commitment would be 2-3 hours at a time and the hours
are flexible.
Fund Raising
Back
to the top
Volunteers are always needed to serve on the committees
for the events. Duties would depend on the event
but could be publicity,
printing, soliciting for prizes, scheduling, logistics,
etc. Committees begin to meet about 6 months prior
with monthly
meetings
with more frequent meetings as the event date gets
closer. Most meetings are no longer than 1 hour.
Volunteer groups and organizations are also invited
to work with The Children’s Foundation on fund raising efforts. Supporters
have also organized a fund raising event and donated proceeds
to The Children’s Foundation.
Parents Care & Share
Back
to the top
Support group facilitators are needed to lead weekly
parent groups. Training is provided and a one year
commitment is requested.
Volunteering With Children
Back
to the top
Spending time with young children can be extremely
rewarding for the volunteer as well as the
children. Two of our
programs use volunteers on a regular basis – The
Child Care Center and The Crisis
Nursery.
Children between the ages of 6 weeks to pre-kindergarten
attend the Child
Care Center on a daily basis
while their parents
are at work. There is also a before and after
school program for
school age children. Volunteers are needed
to work with the children on different activities
which
include reading
stories,
playing
games, creating art projects, and going on
field
trips, and sometimes just giving a little extra
attention to a child.
Volunteer hours
are flexible and can be scheduled between 8:00
a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The Crisis Nursery is open 24 hours, 7 days
a week. This offers volunteer opportunities
to
meet everyone’s schedule.
The children range in age from birth to 6 years and up to 9
children
can be cared for at one time. Volunteers are requested to work
at least 2 hours at a time and can be flexible in their scheduling.
Tasks for the volunteer depend on the time of day they are
volunteering. They might be helping get the children ready
for bed, fix a meal,
read a book or rock a baby to sleep.
All volunteers working with children must complete
a clearance process required by the Department
of Children and Family
Service.
